Tribute to Bayan from Illinois
who died in 2009 at the age of 12 as a result of a long-term illness
Bayan was diagnosed with A-T (Ataxia Telangiectasia), a rare inherited disorder, at the age of 6. The disease put her in a wheelchair and compromised her immune system, and Bayan died from lymphoma at the age of 12 in 2009. That same year, Bayan’s mother and father founded the Bayan Hassaballa Foundation to support research into the cures for A-T, lymphoma and other hematologic malignancies, and to support families devastated by these diseases.
