Tribute to Cassie from Illinois
who died in 2011 at the age of 19 as a result of an accidental overdose
Just after 19-year-old Cassie died from accidentally overdosing on a prescribed medication, her parents honored their daughter’s wish to become an organ donor. Cassie’s organs saved five lives, and Cassie’s parents have since had a chance to meet one of the five – a woman in her early 20s who received Cassie’s heart. They have grown close and now meet regularly. Cassie’s mom, Michelle, says, “It gives me a lot of comfort to know Cassie saved an amazing life and saved the pain for her family of going through the same thing.”
