Publisher’s Note: While a child can be of any age, our focus on stories BY and ABOUT children who have passed away will usually feature individuals who died in their twenties or younger. In this context, Update 21 by Beth Bello, age 43 at her death, does not exactly fit the “child” mold. But Beth represents a special case. The Foundation’s founder – a work colleague of Beth – began work on her book well before the Foundation even existed and, by the time Update 21 was ready to be published, Starshine Galaxy Foundation provided a welcoming home. In order to make this work, however, we need to think of Beth as a perpetual child at heart and, to solidify the “child” dimension, we are honored to be able to include some perspective from Beth’s mother, Sally Daniels – see Reflections on My Daughter.

In a matter of weeks, Beth Bello went from being ecstatically pregnant to grieving the loss of her unborn child and facing an unthinkable diagnosis. Medical professionals found a growth in her breast that they first classified as “worrisome” but, after early rounds of testing, Beth soon realized she was facing the most challenging chapter of her Earthly life.
